What A Difference!

Dscn2392

On Saturday Oct 13, 2012 Lafayette student volunteers converged on the WWNP community gardens and worked with local community gardeners to clean up and put the gardens in good shape for the winter.  The garden located in the empty lot at South 10th and Pine streets had all the raised vegetable beds cleaned out and filled with fresh compost, new recycling bins were built, woodchips spread, flower beds rebuilt, weeded, filled, and replanted and a new bed started with the “lasagna garden” technique. This new flower bed should be ready to plant in the spring. Thanks to Easton Baking, volunteers were able to sustain themselves with tomato pie and thanks to garden neighbor Amy Boccadoro who brought apples from the Easton Farmers Market for all to eat in the afternoon.

Volunteers also cleaned up and filled the raised vegetable bed at the Easton Area Community Center and cleaned up the planting area at the end of South 10th Street.

There were also volunteers at other community gardens and the Easton Urban Farm.  At South 5th and Ferry, the picket fence has a new coat of paint.  The gardens along the Lehigh River were cleaned up, and an amazing weeding and clean-up job was accomplished in the afternoon at 1426 Lynn St.

Check facebook/rosatherabbit.com for more pictures from the work day at South 10th and Pine.

The Urban Farm was cleaned up and fresh compost added to the beds in preparation for a winter cover crop.

Thank you to all of the Community and Lafayette volunteers who made a huge difference on Saturday!!
